First Ear Infection

Elijah woke up with a fever and tons of drool on Sunday. We all chalked it up to nothing more than teeth - even my parents thought that after the massive amount of drool he had dripping off his chin at lunch. The fever persisted on Monday, but he acted pretty normal. His appetite has been off and he has been somewhat cranky/clingy, but nothing that would make one think anything other than teeth. (He has a mouth full, but is still working on his 2 year molars.) That is, until Tuesday morning...he had kept me up quite a bit on Monday night and was very restless. He woke up with fever again on Tuesday and became very restless and cranky when the Tylenol ran off. I also noticed him pulling at his right ear. Now, I knew from when Nathan had his ear infection that them pulling on the ear does not necessarily mean that they have an infection; a lot of times they wont' mess with the ear if it's bothering them. But, something told me that this was more than teeth so I took him to the pediatrician.

Sure enough...he has a double ear infection with more severity and drainage on the right. He also has extremely swollen tonsils. He's now on amoxicillian twice a day until his 18 month check up next Thurs. (6/5) It was 5 before we got home and got the antibiotics in him - and he konked out for 2 1/2 hours. Of course, when bedtime rolled around at 9:30, he wasn't tired. In fact, apparently the antibiotics began working because by 10, he came to life!!! Nathan was already in bed, and Elijah was in the living room playing with the balls, throwing Legos, etc. I FINALLY got him to bed at 12:30.

What's ironic...Nathan had his first (and only) ear infection when he was 17 months, a few days before he turned 18 months. His also happened to be the same weekend I found out that I was pregnant with Elijah. I'm quite sure we won't have that same surprise anytime soon.

UPDATE: Wednesday at noon - Elijah slept until 11:30. He seems 99% better today. No fever, no ear drainage, full appetite. We know he's back to normal because he's wearing shoes with his footed PJ's. (He has this thing for shoes.)
